"All-American Pie Squared"
Hand and machine quilting, freemotion embroidery, bead embroidery, color transfers, embroidered motifs, Coke bottle caps, braided cord, crazy patchwork.

I started the beaded pie in a workshop with Jane Burch Cochran. Using the game of what if, I free associated the colors red, white and blue to go with the "American pie". The transfers are of my mother's 5th grade photos, washed with burnt sienna acrylic to "age" them. This piece is what I imagine an ideal "American childhood" to be, for my mother. It is my way of restoring to her a happy childhood.

"Servant of the Bones"
Wholecloth painted fabric, plastic beads,
"Slim Fast" rubber stamp (in the border, very subliminal).

This piece was inspired by some pink pill-shaped beads I got. The figure in the center is so consumed with being thin and perfect that she can't see anything else. The words behind her are the thoughts racing through her mind, about how to be a girl. The last words as it trails off are "diet, diet, die..."

"Mom's Psyche-Deli"
Hand quilted, controlled crazy patchwork, beading, fusing

My largest piece ever, completed in several installments. When I started this piece I envisioned an airbrushed and beaded masterpiece. Several months and a pregnancy later, and I had to change my methods. The images surrounding the center are reminiscent of the Baker's Coconut cakes from their cookbook, while the colors are colors I remember from my childhood, vivid lime green and paisley prints of my grandmother's housedresses. Each cake is heavily beaded, as is the pie the central image is holding. This is one of the Dishtowel Challenge pieces, curated by Susan Shie.

"Oh, How We Danced"
Crazy patchwork, buttons.

This is my wedding cake, inspired by Martha Stewart. Nonfattening, and keeps forever!

"Fetish A Go-Go"
Crochet, beads.

This is a crocheted doll I made applying peyote stitch beading techniques of reducing and increasing. Her hair and garment are bead embroidery.
